Nizampur Government College, Chittagong
Mirsarai Upazila is located about 60 km from Chittagong city and port and 25 km south of the Indian border. Sunday, August 7, 1964, was a great day. During the independent Sultanate period, Nizampur College, also known as the present Nizampur Government College, was established in this rural town consisting of Mirsarai-Sitakunda, on the corner of the Dhaka-Chittagong highway with the intention of lighting up the island of higher education. Before independence, due to the lack of educational institutions, it was not possible for the students of this area to pursue higher education despite their desire. In order to expand education, the people of this area became eager to establish a college for higher education. With this aim, Sheikh Mohammad Cholaiman (Prakash College Cholaiman) and the then headmaster of Sarkar Hat N. R High School, along with prominent people of the area, agreed to establish a college in this pargana in May 1964. In order to realize the dream of establishing a college, a committee was formed with Mr. M.A. Bari, the administrator of Chittagong Sadar North Subdivision, as the president and Mr. Shadequr Rahman, the then vice-principal of Chittagong Government City College, as the secretary, and 175 members. Later, despite the arrangement of a place in Mastannagar at the initiative of Mr. Shamsul Alam, the establishment of the college was not possible due to lack of management. Later, when the then sub-division administrator decided to donate the school land of Sarkarhat N-R High School to the college, the ceremonial activities of establishing the college at Sarkarhat began with the financial support of the eminent social worker, the late Mr. Saidur Rahman, and the dedicated efforts and financial donations of the poor people of the area. The college started its activities by admitting students of the higher secondary class from the academic year 1964-65. Higher secondary class science, humanities, business education, graduation (pass) level BA, BSS, BBS, BSC and honors courses in accounting and management and class activities in business management and technology (BMT).
